spanish/english dictionary

So I bought my son a school desk. I found it during my incessant thrift store hopping. It isn't the most gorgeous piece of furniture, but at only $4.99 how could I pass it up. It is also a fully foldable, storable one. He already has a great desk in his room. But this way we don't necessarily have to be stuck in his room when we do the homeschooling thing. I am sure you are wondering why I don't just use the kitchen table....but why would I, when I could go out and get something that doesn't work quite as well and I get to pay money for it. Makes sense to me. When I brought it home, Edgard said "oh, hey...a poopy tray" Now, I know it is a bit rough around the edges but I can clean it up and slap some paint on it. But he said that he didn't say poopy tray at all, he claimed he said "pupitre."
...sure. I know his opinion of my junk store obsession. But, yet, when I Googled pupitre, as opposed to poopy tray---it seems to back up his story. You learn something new everyday.
The next day I showed Anthony his new desk. He was so thrilled about it...until he sat down. Too bad his mommy forgot he is a left hander when she bought him a right-handed desk.

inspiration

Yaya over at chunk like tuna---love that name----was inspired by my daughter's touch of insanity to photoshop a little.

I love that even though I have little or no actual talent of my own...I can inspire those who do.

this could be a clue

Do you think the reason my daughter won't eat mac and cheese, could have anything to do with the fact that she calls it maggot cheese?

fútbol

I don't know what you think, but, to me, soccer looks like a lot of fun to play in France.

ain't misbehaving

Happy Friday to everyone.

I am having my father over here for a playdate, today.

I hope he shares toys with the kids and doesn't tattle too much.

what's for dinner?

I have been wanting to create a menu plan for a very long time. When my favorite organizational blog posted about it, I thought, now or never. Of course, as you all could guess, my preference was for never. I should probably name this the "three day' weekly menu plan." Here is the link for their take on the weekly meal plan. I like that they have included an uncluttered--of course--template for you to use.

it's gonna be a bright sunshiny day

For the first time, in a long time, the clouds part to reveal the sun. Reflecting its rays on my uplifted face, I exult in its velvety warmth. It has been gone too long. Yet in the few moments of brightness, I have already forgotten the gloomy, rainy day, feeling. I can do anything. I don't know if there are cloudy days ahead, but today, it honestly doesn't matter. Tiny, beautiful, golden beams of hope, soaking into my starved self.

....and no...

....I am not speaking of the weather.

valentine's güey

While everyone else is more likely to be writing warm and fuzzy posts about Valentine's day, I decided to write something on a more practical side of love, from a woman's perspective. I will leave the warm and fuzzies to the people more suited to it.
This is my advice, to men, when you are...gasp...arguing with your woman. She doesn't necessarily want to be agreed with, but rather, simply, to be understood. Especially refrain from acquiescing if you are doing it to bring about an end to the argument. If there is any way possible, though you may not agree with what she is saying, to put yourself in her place, and try to
understand what she is feeling in that moment. It could be better for both of you. And then, do your level best to show her that it has made an impact in your brain. If you find that she is repeating something over and over again---then she does not feel either heard or understood. And please, especially, don't say:
  • whatever
  • you are crazy
  • rolling your eyes
I realize that the last one isn't an actual phrase...but believe me, it is the loudest one.

And on that note...Feliz Dia de San Valentin

odd world

An odd world, to me, is a world where a bowl of baby carrots and unsweetened green tea is a treat.

But it is an odd world, after all, and today, they are indeed a treat. I have been eating better now for two weeks and I am craving water!!!??!? and fruits and Veggies!!??!?! And...I am even thinking about exercise on a regular basis. And sometimes I even do it too. Will wonders never cease? Will my big rear never shrink? Should I be in bed right now? Does Edgard snore? Will I ever shut up?
No.
Yes.
Undoubtedly.
What? Sorry I can't hear the question over the loud, thunderous rumbling, emanating from the bed.
And in answer to the last question, I will pose another.
Has
hades succumbed to freezing temperatures as of yet?

snow bunny

My little snowboarder... Much like Bradley, at the age of (nearly) 33, he is in an advanced state of decay...so though he was able to make it through the day snowboarding, he was barely able to move the next morning.

baby don't go

Tomorrow Edgard is going skiing with a work buddy and his son. And yes, Mexicans ski. They also play tennis, own dogs other than chihuahuas, and take off their sombreros to shower. At least, all that goes for Edgard. I am, of course, worried about him but he promised me he "wouldn't run into a tree like that Sonny and Cher guy." Oh that is good, because I wasn't at all referring to the icy drive up there. I am glad that he is going, since he usually has to work every Saturday. This will be a nice break for him.

On the weight loss front, I had a terrible relapse at Christmas and ended up gaining weight. What can I say? I love food and hate exercise. Not exactly a recipe for slimness. But I am back at it and I will start regularly updating you again, very soon. I am not exactly ready at this moment. But rest assured, I am doing well regaining (bad choice of words) ground in the fight against my lardishness. I gave up drinking Pepsi One---I think the aspartame was having an incredibly negative affect on me---and cut back on the coffee, got a treadmill (which I am using) and am trying to go to bed earlier. Just taking it a step at a time.

On the homeschool front---I stopped using the curriculum that I was using and started using other things that I picked up at a store that I love. I am doing so much better with a little less structure and Anthony is doing well---but I believe that is directly related to the fact that he is a genius. Which is nice because I am as dumb as the proverbial post. I can't wait for the day he can start teaching me---probably sometime next week.

That is all the updating I have for now...if I missed anything, let me know.

SPLAT!!!

So there I was fixing my dinner, after a stint on the treadmill. Anyone who has ever walked on treadmill knows, that after you get off, your equilibrium can tend to be a bit off. And sure enough...my equilibrium was a bit off.

This proves what I have always said. Nothing good comes from exercising.

tales of the twisted

....and then there was the year that my parents decided to eschew the traditional "Christian" holidays with pagan origins. Easter (ishtar) was the first to go, and they decided to try their hand at celebrating First Fruits.

The only things that changed?

.....no more bunny rabbits and easter eggs.

But my favorite touch, in our homage to the Jewish holiday, belonged to my mother. She lovingly prepared a ham dinner.
